We explore the universe because it allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the fundamental laws of nature, the origins of the cosmos, and the potential for life beyond Earth. By studying distant galaxies, stars, and planets, we can learn more about the formation and evolution of our own solar system and planet. Additionally, exploring the universe can also lead to technological advancements and innovations that benefit life on Earth. While there is still much to discover and understand about our own planet, exploring the universe provides us with valuable insights into the broader context of our existence. **

Comets can travel faster than Earth when they are approaching the Sun, as they are accelerated by the Sun's gravitational pull. However, as they move away from the Sun, their speed decreases. Overall, comets can have varying speeds depending on their distance from the Sun and their trajectory. Earth, on the other hand, orbits the Sun at a relatively constant speed of about 67,000 miles per hour. **

Press did not report on the near catastrophe when a comet flew extremely close to Earth back then because the event likely occurred before the era of modern mass media and widespread communication. Additionally, the technology to detect and track such celestial events may not have been as advanced as it is today, making it easier for a close encounter to go unnoticed. Lastly, the event may have been downplayed or kept secret by authorities to prevent panic or fear among the public. **

The lack of press coverage on the near catastrophe when a comet passed extremely close to Earth could be attributed to several reasons. Firstly, it is possible that the event occurred in a time period where communication and technology were not as advanced, making it difficult for news to spread quickly. Additionally, the scientific understanding of comets and their potential impact on Earth may have been limited at that time, leading to a lack of awareness and urgency in reporting the event. Lastly, governments or authorities may have chosen to suppress information about the near catastrophe to prevent panic or maintain control over the situation. **
